Although a hybrid of potatoes, rice and corn might sound like a drink only an astronaut or a homeless person would eat, Professional Supplements is marketing this cocktail as the next big thing to hit pre-workout supplements.
Even though this combination made our stomachs turn, we thought we better investigate Pure Karbolyn just to make sure it wasn’t a diamond in the rough.
What Pure Karbolyn Does
Pure Karbolyn is marketed as a pre-workout supplement that will help deliver your body energy that will last longer than sugar, caffeine, or any stimulant-based workout drink.
This pre-workout supplement claims to be able to offer your body pure glycogen that will energize your muscles 80% faster than any competing carbohydrate supplements.
Professional Supplements also claims that Pure Karbolyn has been engineered with the perfectly sized carbohydrate molecule to enable faster absorption.
How Pure Karbolyn Does It
Despite the fact that Professional Supplements keeps most of its formula on tight lock down, we were able to glean some information about the idea behind Pure Karbolyn’s efficacy.
Claiming to be the first U.S. Company to distribute a highly processed waxy corn starch in its “pure” form, we can tell that Pure Karbolyn is definitely geared toward offering more glycogen per volume by cutting out anything that isn’t a carbohydrate.
This is good news since filling your stomach full of bulky foods can actually detract from your workout.
Not only does a full stomach make some moves uncomfortable, but it also causes a lot of your blood to rush to your be allocated for digestion. This means that less blood is available for nourishing and energizing your muscles.
We did find one description, however, that is less encouraging. Professional Supplements says that Pure Karbolyn “drops quickly through the stomach and creates a ‘vacuum-like’ state, pulling nutrients swiftly into the blood stream.”
Since no food is able to create a vacuum in your stomach, in fact, most digestion releases air which causes burps, we’re not sure if Professional Supplements is just poorly choosing their words, or if it actually reveals a lack of fundamental knowledge for how the body works.
Would We Buy Pure Karbolyn?
Even if Professional Supplements did have an adequate physiological knowledge, and Pure Karbolyn actually was able to offer you energy, we wouldn’t be interested because of their high dosing and high pricing.
This means that for the cost of one bottle of Pure Karbolyn, you’re only going to get about eight workouts in. After investigating this product, we simply don’t think it’s worth it.
